Caritas staff and fans run to stop hunger

On 19 October 2014, staff and volunteers from Caritas Italiana, Caritas Roma and Caritas Internationalis joined a Hunger Run in Rome to raise awareness of global food needs. Participants ran or walked past such landmarks as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. “I usually drive there, or sit on the bus,” said Anna Arcuri of Caritas Italiana. “It was amazing to enjoy walking there with people of all ages–even babies in strollers!”

A yearly event run by the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations, the Hunger Run benefits programmes that help people in impoverished countries feed themselves.

“This has been an effervescent day,” said Alfonso Apicella, coordinator for Caritas’ “One Human Family, Food for All” campaign. “Supporters and volunteers today really reflected the character, optimism and hope of the Caritas network. We’re always on the move in the race against hunger.”

“The most fun thing is to see different people from different countries who are committed to this cause,” said Martina Liebsch, director of advocacy for Caritas Internationalis. “Hopefully this will translate into action in the future.”
